英語のハノンでまだうろ覚えな単語・フレーズの練習まとめ

ただいま『英語のハノン』初級の5周目をトレーニング中です。

驚かれる方も多いかもしれませんが、これまで4周練習を繰り返してきたにも関わらず、悲しいかな物覚えの悪い私は「あれ、これどういう意味だっけ…？」と忘れてしまっている単語やフレーズに結構出くわします😅

覚えては忘れる、の地道な作業を何度も繰り返すしか無いとは思ってますが、少しでも定着する手助けになるよう、これまで特に覚えられていない単語・フレーズを自分用に整理してみたいと思います。

時間のある時に少しずつ更新中です。

Unit 1

I have been going to the gym since last month to get in shape.
体調を整えるために先月からジムに通ってます。

• 意味：体調が良い

彼は屋根裏を寝室として使っています。

• 意味：屋根裏。屋根のすぐ下にあってよく物置に使われるスペース。
• 関連表現：basement 地下

in a temper

My boss is in a good temper because our sales have rose significantly for this month.
今月は売上が大幅に伸びたので、上司の機嫌が良いのです。

• ドリル：Unit 1.5
• 意味：機嫌が良い
• temper は気分、気質という以外にも、短気、怒りという意味があり、in a temper だと機嫌が悪いことを表す。それに対して、in a good temper で機嫌が良いと表現できる。

He is kind of hard to talk to when he is in a temper.
機嫌が悪い時、彼はちょっと話しかけづらいんです。

bed and breakfast

Which do you prefer to stay at a bed and breakfast or a hotel?
B&Bとホテルのどちらに泊まるのが好きですか？

• ドリル：Unit 1.9
• 意味：寝床と朝食が提供される小規模な宿泊施設、サービス。

日本だとあまり聞き慣れない言葉ですが、ちょっとした民宿とか朝食サービス付きのビジネスホテルとかのイメージが近いでしょうか。

でも「bed and breakfast」でググると、まるで簡易施設には見えず泊まってみたい！と思わせるような写真がたくさん出てきます。海外に行く機会があれば利用してみたいものです。
